DIY Farmhouse Table

We spent time looking for a rustic farmhouse dining room table for a while and recently decided to build our own after seeing this one over at stylizimo.

Here is a picture of the finished product:

Materials list:
  • (7) 5'x5.5"x1" pine boards.
Note: We bought (3) 10'x5.5"x1" boards and had them cut in half.
We wanted the table a bit wider so we purchased an additional 6' board and cut it down to 5'
  • (3)  2.5'x3.5'x1" boards
  • 1.25" Wood screws
  • Vinegar
  • Steel Wool
  • Sand Paper
  • (2) Ikea Vika Lerberg legs ($20.00)

Note: The Vika Lerberg legs are not designed to be attached to the table top. The top rests on the trestle legs.
  • Ikea Behandla Colorless Paint ($5.99)

Prepare the stain:

To create the stain soak steel wool in vinegar for 24 hours. When applied it will give it an aged/rustic look to the wood.

Assemble the table:

Sand the boards smooth.

Align the boards on a flat surface and attach the 3 2' 1/2" boards to the bottom with the wood screws.

Stain and Seal the Top:

Once the stain is ready, use a rag or brush to apply the stain to a test piece of wood. Let sit for 30 minutes to let the stain darken to the final color.

Use a rag or brush to apply the stain to the bottom of the table first then the top. The pine soaks up the stain very quickly so be sure to apply the stain evenly and avoid starting and stopping to prevent lines. The stain will go on clear and darken in about 30 minutes.

Use a brush or rag to apply the Behandla Paint. This will help seal the table and make it more durable.

Set the table top on the trestle legs and your done!
